...A Little Sunshine...

 Remember these guys?!
It's Stripee and Jack!

Check out Stripee's Chrysalis!! I LOVE that you can see through it just hours before he comes out!!
Here's STRIPEE!!
We couldn't be MORE EXCITED to see him!! What a fun surprise! He came out to see us on I-Insect day!! I couldn't have planned it better myself!
 Drying out his wings...
Time to take Stripee out to the big world! We all want to hold him!
We tried to let as many kids hold him before he flew away.....

Our class journal.... invented spelling of course!
Goodbye Stripee!!
Jack wasn't as patient ... he came out of his chrysalis the next school day but didn't want to let us hold him!
He flew away into the field next door and hung out on this grass for a while.....

What a FUN adventure! It's hard to say goodbye to our friends, but it was so much fun while they were here!!

Beautiful and graceful, varied and enchanting, small but approachable, butterflies lead you to the sunny side of life.  And everyone deserves a little sunshine.  ~Jeffrey Glassberg

Fun with Colors!

We started our Color Unit last week....

We started by introducing the PRIMARY COLORS

Each day we wore a different color and found that color all over the classroom and outdoors.
At the end of the week, we were able to SORT the primary colors:

This week we are discovering all sort of fun things we can do with the primary colors! We have used our scientific skills and found that by using the primary colors, we can make NEW colors!!

Experimenting with colors is SO MUCH FUN!!!

Discovery Centers

I love Discovery Centers!
They are completely child-directed where they learn while having SO MUCH FUN!

I introduce them one at a time. These are the centers we have open right now:

DRAMATIC PLAY CENTER:
Lemonade Stand
How many things can we learn during dramatic play??
Relationships, creativity, sharing, self discovery, self confidence, story telling, group play, cooperation, and communication to name a few!!

BLOCK CENTER:

READING CENTER:
Right now for this center, they use pointers to "read around the room" and to read our classroom rules which were written together during SHARED WRITING time.
In the reading center, we are learning that - letters put together- make up the words we say. We are noticing that spaces between words tell us a new word is coming.

The kids are also enjoying time to explore our classroom library...

It's been fun to retell stories, or even make up our own stories to go along with the picture!!

Do you Like Green Eggs and Ham?

It's G day!

Green Green Green!
After experimenting with Yellow and Blue to make GREEN...

....We read the story: Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss!
And we got to thinkin'..... DO I LIKE GREEN EGGS AND HAM??

So we tried it out!
Turns out... it tastes a lot better than it looks!!
