Symmetry

We learned about Symmetry today!!

We looked at pictures of nature and found that symmetry is found all around us!

We played "My Turn, Your Turn" to build symmetrical designs:

We even created our own symmetrical paintings!!

Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty Sat on a Wall....
Humpty Dumpty Had a Great Fall!!
Today we had fun comparing a cooked egg vs a raw egg. We looked at the different parts of the egg: the shell, the white, and the yolk.
Then of course, we wrote about it in our science journals:

We then built our own walls for Humpty Dumpty....

We figured out many different ways to make an oval shape balance on our block walls!
We used different kinds of blocks to see which ones worked best

For snack time, we ate hard boiled eggs toast.... YUM!!

We then played "Put Humpty Together Again"
(a game I found on SugarDoodle)

Discovery Centers

I love Discovery Centers!
They are completely child-directed where they learn while having SO MUCH FUN!

I introduce them one at a time. These are the centers we have open right now:

DRAMATIC PLAY CENTER:
Lemonade Stand
How many things can we learn during dramatic play??
Relationships, creativity, sharing, self discovery, self confidence, story telling, group play, cooperation, and communication to name a few!!

BLOCK CENTER:

READING CENTER:
Right now for this center, they use pointers to "read around the room" and to read our classroom rules which were written together during SHARED WRITING time.
In the reading center, we are learning that - letters put together- make up the words we say. We are noticing that spaces between words tell us a new word is coming.

The kids are also enjoying time to explore our classroom library...

It's been fun to retell stories, or even make up our own stories to go along with the picture!!

Symmetry

We had fun exploring SYMMETRY today!
We played "My Turn, Your Turn" to build a symmetrical design with our pattern blocks...

Afterwards, we watched a Power Point Presentation with symmetry found all around the world.

Then we painted symmetrical pictures:

We even made our bodies into symmetrical shapes!

Humpty Dumpty

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall!!

Today we had fun comparing a cooked egg vs a raw egg. We looked at the different parts of the egg: the shell, the white, and the yolk.

We tried to make our own walls and see if we could get an oval egg to balance on them! What fun!
We tried making walls out of different kinds of blocks to see if one was better than the other.

For snack time, we all ate hard boiled eggs and observed the different parts of eggs.

We then played a fun dice game I found on Sugardoodle
"I can put Humpty together again!"
We then worked on counting. We put eggs (ok, they were bean counters.... but we called them eggs) in trays according the labeled number.
We then acted out Humpty Dumpty and
the kids tried to put Humpty together again!
