Five Senses!

I like to use the month of December to learn about the 5 senses!!

Patterned after the Brown Bear Brown Bear, What do you see?, book - we make a Little Elf 5 Senses book! They turn out so adorable! The kids create illustrations to match each page. (Again, lost photos :(, but here are a few)

Exploring our sense of FEEL with shaving cream!

Can you see the word "The"?!

Animal Habitats...

Over the last couple of weeks, we have been learning about different ANIMAL HABITATS!

Here are our FOREST ANIMAL HABITATS:

We talked about BEARS too and learned that you should NEVER wake a sleeping bear! What FUN we had learning about the "SH" sound!!
The kiddos had fun playing "Bear Cave Math" where their partners had to "guess" how many bears were sleeping in the cave. Who knew they were adding and subtracting at the same time?!

Our DESERT ANIMAL HABITATS:
Watch out for those sharp cactus plants!!

We were so lucky to have one of our friends bring in two real LIZARDS on our desert day!!
They were SO much fun to watch!

 JUNGLE ANIMAL HABITATS:

In addition to habitats, we also learned about AMPHIBIANS and REPTILES:
We compared the two with a ven diagram:

We used corn syrup paint to make the amphibians feel smooth and slimy
and we used glitter to make the reptiles feel dry and rough.

Opposites!

We had SO much fun during Opposites Week!
Every one of the kiddos brought in some FUN and CREATIVE opposite Show and Tells!

One of our most fun activities this week was ~ OOBLECK.
It covered two different opposites: Dry - Wet and Liquid - Solid

We started out with DRY Cornstarch

and added WET water!

Mix away (use your muscles)

Then it was time to GET DIRTY!! (Ooooo! Another Opposite! Clean - Dirty!)
This was such a fun sensory activity!!
If you worked with it slowly, it was a liquid .....
But if you worked with it quickly, it became a solid!

Christmas Party!

What do YOU want for Christmas?

For a little break, we reviewed our 5 Senses in our Science Journals:
I told a story about a little boy, and they had to draw a picture of the sense that he was using during the story. They did a GREAT job listening to the story and applying it to the 5 senses!

More Santa's Workshop time! Last minute gift making and stocking stuffing was needed!

The kids made some presents for their parents, and wrapped them all by themselves! They were so proud!
Their Ornaments

During some free time, all of the kids ran to the bookshelf, and pulled out some of their favorite Christmas stories from our classroom library to read!

The afternoon class all wanted to listen to the same book on tape, so they all huddled around the book together!

Snack time! They decorated their own Christmas Tree sugar cookies! YUM!

 Our next project! CHRISTMAS TREES!!!
Paint, glue, and glitter!!

At the end of the day, some of the kids brought a fun treat to share with their friends in the class and we all sang some more Christmas Songs!!

Merry Christmas everyone!!
