EGG DROP

 Even though I lost a bunch of photos, I was super excited that the EGG DROP photos were saved!!

We spent some time this week talking about animals that hatch from eggs.

To culminate this unit, we celebrated with an EGG DROP!!

Of course the day started out with 2 feet of snow (really... after weeks of spring weather, we had SNOW!!)  But alas, the Egg Drop must go on! (and it did!)

Here's the morning class all BUNDLED up  ready to watch their CAREFULLY PACKAGED raw eggs take a rooftop drop! 

 Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great .... 

FALL!!!!!

 Here's the afternoon class with their practically perfect packages!!

 Each egg was packaged SO differently!

 We even had some moms and younger siblings come as extra spectators for this fun project!!

After all the eggs dropped, we opened up the packages to see if the eggs cracked or did NOT crack!

After some graphing, we wrote about the results in our journals! 

Garden Week!

This week we have been learning about gardens!

We started out by learning about the parts of plants:

Seeds

Roots

Stem

Leaves

Flower

Fruit

 We then learned about the needs of plants:

Soil

Water

Sun

Air

And planted our own seeds!

Watch them grow!!

We also made these FUN SOCK CREATURES!!! I did this when I taught kindergarten, and it was a huge hit here in preschool too! I took lots of photos, but my computer broke and I'm pretty sure the photos were swallowed up in the belly of that computer.  But here is one of our sock creatures growing "hair" from grass seed!

 As the hair grows, the kiddos get to give it a hair cut!!

We did many fun things during our Garden Unit, but I lost a whole bunch of those photos :( One of my favorite books to read during Garden Week is Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens. The class made a garden mural on the wall of plants that grow on both the top and bottom of a garden.

We culminated our unit by having a "Eating Parts of Plants" party! (yes, I did have to remind them that you can't just go ripping up plants out of the ground and eat them!) We ate sunflower SEEDS, carrots for the ROOTS, celery for the STEM, lettuce for the LEAF, broccoli for the FLOWER, and apple slices for the FRUIT! Then we GRAPHED which part of the plant was our favorite part to eat! 

It was a great way to end our fun week of gardening!!  

Hickory Dickory Dock

We had fun making our own little puppet show/stages today for Hickory Dickory Dock....

We used these to retell the story...

We also learned about what's on a clock and wrote the numbers on the clock. We learned that clocks have hands that tell us what time it is!

Afterward, we illustrated our last nursery rhyme in our books and read them to each other!

 We also played a fun game:

...the cat and the fiddle.

The cow jumped over the moon!

The little dog laughed to see such sport

and the dish ran away with the spoon!

We had so much fun with dishes and spoons today!

We predicted how many spoonfuls of water it would take to fill this dish....

We painted dishes with spoons.... what a fun way to paint!!!

 It was fun to review colors and what happens when we mixed them!!!

Afterward, we had spoon relay races outside!

 We acted out the nursery rhyme with props!

Come blow your horn!

The sheep's in the meadow, the cow's in the corn.

Where is the boy who looks after the sheep?

Under the haystack, fast asleep!

Today we made BLUE Berry muffins!

mmmmmmm they were good!!

 Little Boy Blue... come blow your horn!!!

We all made horns today!

 We pretended to be little boy blue and found places around the classroom to "fall asleep" and then we'd wake each other up with our horns.... oh the fun never ends!

 What a FUN (and loud) day at school!!
